Abstract

The plastic zone at the tip of the flaw (including acute cark and common notch) was investigated. For the notch specimen, a formula of toughness K_C^R was proposed, and its physical meaning was emphasized.Two modes of brittle fracture was identified and the evaluating criterion was established.
