This secial issue with the topic of “Advanced Energy Storage and Materials” was organized to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) and the newly established Department of Energy Storage Science and Engineering in USTB. It includes 16 papers, with one from the group of Chinese Academician Liquan Chen and one from the group of Chinese Academician Feng Wu. All papers were mainly focused on the advanced materials and devices for the electrochemical energy storage and hydrogen energy storage, including the materials design and development for higher energy density and longer lifetime, the characterizations and fundamental understanding of these systems, and the recycle and reuse of the battery materials. Leading scientists from the top universities and institutes in China are invited to share their researches and perspectives on the electrochemical energy storage; world-class scientists from Canada, Demark, and Republic of Korean are invited to share their researches and reviews on the hydrogen energy storage and applications. The original works will provide insight to understand the recent development and frontiers of advanced energy storage materials and technologies.
