Aims and Scope

Peer-reviewed and published monthly, International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials is the official journal of University of Science and Technology Beijing. The journal is dedicated to the publication and the dissemination of original research articles (and occasional invited reviews) in the fields of Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials to establish a platform of communication between engineers and scientists. Papers dealing with minerals processing, mining, mine safety, process metallurgy, metallurgical physical chemistry, structure and physical properties of materials, corrosion and resistance of materials, are viewed as suitable for publication. The journal is covered by EI Compendex, SCI Expanded, Chemical Abstract, etc.

Manuscripts submitted to this journal have not been published and will not be simultaneously submitted or published elsewhere. And manuscripts are selected for publication according to the editorial assessment of their suitability and evaluation from independent reviewers.

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscript should be in English and typed in double space with ample margin on all sides on A4 paper. The following components are required for a complete manuscript: Title, Author(s), Author affiliation(s), Abstract, Keywords, Main text, Acknowledgements and References, and should include page numbers on the document, beginning with the title page as number 1. Please use standard 10-point Times New Roman font. The total length of the original research paper should not exceed 5000 words that includes tables and figures, but not the references. Generally, the total number of figures should not exceed 15.

Title and byline

Should appear on page one. The title of the paper should be explicit, descriptive and as brief as possible. Exact name, title, affiliation (institution) of the authors, city, zip code, country, and e-mail address of the author(s) should be listed.

Should be self-contained and adequate as a summary of the article; namely, it should indicate aim and significance, newly observed facts, conclusions, and the essential parts of any new theory, treatment, apparatus, technique, etc. The abstract should not contain literature citations. Define the nonstandard symbols and abbreviations used in the abstract. Avoid “built-up” equations that cannot be rendered in linear fashion within the running text. The abstract should be concise and informative with a length of about 300 words.

Key words

Should include 4-8 pieces of words or phrases that are helpful for cross-indexing the paper.

Main text

Should contain an introduction that puts the paper into perspective for readers, and should also contain methods, results, discussion, and conclusions. The SI system must be used for units of measure throughout the text. The text should make clear distinctions between physical variables, mathematical symbols, units of measurement, abbreviations, chemical formulas, etc. Physical quantities should be set in normal italic, and vectors, tensors, and matrices in boldface italic. Please give full spellings of abbreviations where they are first used in the paper in the following form: full spelling (abbreviation), such as, spark plasma sintering (SPS). Also it should be indicated what meaning variables denote when they first appear in the paper, for example, D is the grain size. Each equation or formula in the paper should be spaced one line apart from the text and be numbered in order with Arabic numerals placed on the right-hand margin. Each figure (including a, b, c, etc. of each figure) and each table must present a caption and consecutively numbered with Arabic numerals and must be mentioned in the text. They should be self-explanatory, their purpose evident without reference to the text. Tables should be drawn with three horizontal lines, at the top and bottom of the table and between the column headings and the table body.

Electronic figures should be submitted. The resolution discussed below is based on each graphic being placed in the page-layout program at 100%. Figures should be saved as Photoshop compatible minimum 600 dpi TIFF or JPEG files. Line drawings should be clear and well designed. Indicate clearly what is being plotted, in both the horizontal and the vertical directions. Include appropriate units. The lettering and plotted points should be large enough to be legible after reduction.

Acknowledgements of people, grants, funds, etc. should be placed in a separate section before the reference list. The names of funding organizations should be written in full.

Conflict of Interest

All authors must declare financial/commercial conflicts of interest. If the authors have no conflicts of interest, this should be stated.

Only essential references (journal article, monograph, dissertation, report, proceedings, standard, patent, and/or electronic publication, formally published) cited in the text can be listed and must be numbered consecutively by Arabic numerals (e.g. [1]). And all the authors of references need to be listed. Personal communications and unpublished data are not acceptable references.

Manuscript Submission

Authors should submit their manuscripts online. Electronic submission can substantially reduce the editorial processing and reviewing time and shorten overall publication time. Please submit your manuscript via ScholarOne Manuscripts (

International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials conducts “Double blinded peer-review”. When uploading your manuscript, you will need to upload a manuscript file with no identifying author information and no acknowledgements (designate as “Main Document”) and a separate title page (designate as “Title Page”) with author details and acknowledgements.

In cover letter, the authors must state explicitly how the paper fits the Aims and Scope of the journal and the significance and novelty of the work, with respect to existing literature. Failure to include novelty statement may result in desk-rejection of manuscripts without peer review.

Editorial Procedure

Double-blind peer review

All manuscripts will be thoroughly evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process by at least two qualified reviewers.

Editorial board members shall not be involved in processing their own academic work. Submissions authored by editorial board members will be assigned to at least two independent outside reviewers. Journal staff are not involved in the processing of their own work submitted to the journal.

Copyright Transfer

No article can be published unless accompanied by a signed Copyright Transfer Statement, which ensures a transfer of copyright from author to University of Science and Technology Beijing. The Copyright Transfer Statement can be downloaded from The signed statement should be uploaded in company with the submission of the manuscript. If the article is not published in International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials, the copyright transfer will not take effect.

The papers published in International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials are protected by copyright, and cannot legally be published elsewhere in any form without the written permission from Editorial Department of International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials, Journal Publishing Center of University of Science and Technology Beijing.

Research Data Policy

The journal encourages authors, where possible and applicable, to deposit data that support the findings of their research in a public repository. Authors and editors who do not have a preferred repository should consult Springer Nature’s list of repositories and research data policy.
